David Goldberg, the CEO of Survery Monkey, and husband of a leading Facebook executive, died yesterday after collapsing while exercising on vacation. David’s wife, Sheryl Sandberg, is the Chief Operating Officer of Facebook.
Goldberg was 47 years old, and the father of two children. His business, Survey Monkey, is valued at around $1 billion after recent financing by large investors. Survey Monkey allows users to create free, customizable, surveys, and provides extensive technological solutions for data analysis needs.
Goldberg will be remembered as a tech entrepreneur, and an outspoken advocate of feminism. When his wife, Sheryl, published the 2013 book “Lean In,” all about the issue of gender in the workplace, Goldberg fully supported his wife to the media and news outlets.
Mark Zuckerberg posted the following status update, eulogizing David:
Other eulogies and tributes from the tech community are hitting social media since the tragic news was reported yesterday by David’s brother, Robert. There will be an invitation-only event today to celebrate his life. The invitation reads that men should not show up in ties, “in keeping with Dave’s lifelong hatred of ties… Out of respect for the family, please do not take pictures or post to social media from the event.”
