1) Make Shopping Lists
Of course going shopping is not a way to save money. But, it’s something you gotta do. One way to cut out unnecessary costs when shopping, whether for groceries or clothes, is to sit down before you go and think about exactly what you need. Write these things down and bring them with you. This way your purchases will be based off needs and not wants. So, if you have to spend money, at least everything you buy is worth it.
2) Saving Jar
We’re not talking about your average piggy bank. Instead, this would help you understand how much you are thinking about spending. Every time you think about buying something you don’t really need, put $1 aside. Now your urges to spend can actually turn into a way save money!
3) Don’t get caught up in labels
It’s hard not to get hypnotized by fancy labels and chic packaging. But, the truth of the matter is, most generic labels (especially in the supermarket) have exactly the same ingredients. Honestly, just because a box of pasta doesn’t have any Italian writing on it doesn’t mean it won’t taste good.
4) Walk or bike
Sure, the price of oil is now lower, but it’s still a huge expense. Trying using methods of transportations that are free. Not only is great for the pocket, but it’s a good workout. The more money that you save by walking or biking, the more you’ll have to spend having a good time!
5) Log your spending
Write everything down! Sometimes keeping a list of your spending can really put things into perspective. You might not realize you are overspending until you see it all in writing. Keeping a log of your spending will help you realize what a necessary purchase is, and what you can do without.
6) Invest in timeless pieces
Remember that trends come and go. If you shop for things because they are cool right now, chances are in a year you won’t want it any more. It’s better to invest in a good watch that will last for decades, or a good pair of shoes that won’t wear out.
7) Remember to turn everything off
Everyone forgets to turn off the lights when they leave the house, but this can really burn up your electricity bill. Turning off the lights, the air conditioner, and even unplugging unnecessary chargers will dramatically cut back on costs. And, it’s good for the environment.
