Mixed Feelings on Patent War Veto

The Obama administration’s decision to overturn an international trade ruling against Apple - the first such veto in more than 25 years - promises to upend long-running battles over intellectual property in the smartphone market. This will change the strategies that some of the world’s biggest technology companies use to defend their inventions. Apple and Samsung, forefront runners of the mobile-device market, which is expected to top $400 billion this year, have been engaged in patent fights since April 2011. This global war began when Apple accused Samsung of copying aspects of its iPhone and iPad. On the other hand, the Innovation Alliance said it was “tremendously disappointed” by the decision, which it said represented “perhaps the worst of all possible outcomes.”
