Social Media Sabotage

It is common practice for companies to search candidates’ social-media accounts to find out more about their personalities and how well they communicate. In that sense, if thought about carefully, you could build your profile to work in your favour. However, although a small percentage of online profiles help candidates land a position, more often than not, it backfires. According to a survey, the most commonly spotted red flag are: racy photos, drunk photos, bad-mouthing, online slang, intolerance and racist comments, and lies / misrepresenting yourself. Seems like common sense to keep your online reputation intact, restraining your posts so that they’re HR friendly, yet despite all the advice and warnings to be cautious with social media, job applicants continue to get burned by their online profiles. So, if you’re thinking of getting a job, or changing a job - or if you even have a job - think before you post.
