Amazon Brings ‘Minions’ To People’s Doorsteps

Financial analysts are buzzing today about Amazon’s most recent discovery of a new revenue stream, and the surprise in store for Amazon’s online shoppers.

Amazon struck a deal with Universal Pictures to include advertisements of the studio’s most recent film on Amazon’s shipment boxes. Shoppers who order products to their homes and offices via Amazon have already begun to notice the change.

Amazon is using the new boxes as the center of a new social media campaign, #minionboxes. By posting pictures of themselves, with the new boxes, contestants are eligible to win a $1,000 Amazon giveaway promotion.

Customers are taking advantage of the promotion as well. An influx of minion boxes, and buyers with their minions boxes is sweeping unto people’s Twitter streams.

Satish Jindel, President of SJ Consulting, says this is the smartest move we’ve seen from Amazon in quite a while.

“It’s estimated,” said Satish, “that they will spend about 5 cents per box, to carry that ad, and they’ll probably get about 30 cents per box [from Universal]. That’s a lot of money. Also, keep in mind that they spend $8 billion a year in transportation… It’s the first time that a company on this scale has done this sort of campaign.”
