Twitter’s New CEO

Dick Costolo, after 5 years of serving as Twitter’s CEO, is stepping down (most say due to increased pressure from investors). So, who will lead the company now? The interim CEO is Jack Dorsey, who currently also heads a financial services startup called Square.

In 2006, Jack Dorsey co-founded Twitter with 3 of his buddies. In 2008, Dorsey was demoted from his top position. Dorsey remained with Twitter, nonetheless, playing a crucial role over the years in product development.

Many are now asking whether Dorsey will remain CEO. Scott Kurnit, CEO of Keep Holdings, believes there is simply no better option for Twitter. “Dorsey knows Twitter to its core,” says Kurnit. “He didn’t say that he doesn’t want the CEO of Twitter position. In addition, Twitter is definitely much more interesting than his current job, heading Square.”

Many tech writers are comparing Dorsey’s comeback to Twitter to Steve Jobs’ legendary comeback to Apple.

Costolo himself, also agrees that Dorsey is a fine candidate. “There is no one better than Jack Dorsey to lead Twitter during this transition,” said Costolo. “He has a profound understanding of the product and Twitter’s mission in the world.”
