7 Ways to Make Office Life More Fun

Most of us spend more time with our coworkers than we do with our families. In this day and age, the office has truly become a second home for many people and while we’re expected to be super productive and excel in every task we are assigned with, office life can easily become humdrum and exhausting.

So what can we do to make our work environment more pleasant, and help boost morale and productivity? Here are a few fun tips.

1. Have Lunch Together: Getting to know you collogues is important, and this is not always easy to do when work is on the table. Lunch break is the perfect time to bond over a great meal, stop talking shop and really have a conversation with the people you spend so many hours with.

2. Make Time for the In-House Fun & Games:You come to the office to work, but there has to be an element of fun thrown in or you’ll lose your mind. We’re not programmed robots and a little diversion here and there will actually help increase productivity. Have a few board games at hand, maybe a ping pong table or a game console. If you’re low on budget, try Charades, Pictionary or a round of Trivia – as long as it gives you the much needed change in atmosphere and brightens up your mundane work day, it’s all good.

3. Celebrate Small Accomplishments: Sure, you won’t have amazing success or incredible victories on a daily basis, but that doesn’t mean you can’t revel in smaller achievements. Doing significant work and making real progress is just as important to the business and acknowledging little wins creates a wonderful atmosphere of collaboration mutual respect.

4. Decorate: The space you inhabit has a profound impact on your senses, and yes, on your performance as well. How are you supposed to get inspired if you’re staring at white walls and hospital-like lighting all day long? An office should reflect the people who work in it and a fun design is essential in getting the creative juices flowing and in making you want to come to work.

5. Play Practical Jokes: Who doesn’t love a good prank? As long as they are tastefully and thoughtfully done, practical jokes are hilariously funny and keep us all from taking ourselves too seriously.

6. Have an Awesome Goodies Stash: Sharing is caring and if you only stock up in your private drawer, that’s bound to make you an outcast. Every office needs a great snack reserve for long days, happy occasions or low blood sugar instances. Candy makes people happy, and happy people do better work. It’s really that simple.

7. Organize a Happy Hour: Having lunch together is great, but afterwards, you have to rush back to work. Happy Hour is called that for a reason; it’s your time to unwind, relax and have fun. It’s also a golden opportunity to see the people you work with, even managers and execs, in an unbuttoned, chilled mode. The most important thing about an office environment is making sure that people feel comfortable, and with a drink in hand, music playing and a fun conversation going, how could they not?
