Choosing our #1 Coolest CEO was no easy task. A variety of factors were included in our “coolness” test, and, if you’re already on this page, then you’ll already have seen his picture above, and you know we have chosen Elon Musk.

So, why did we choose Musk?

While it is hard to calculate coolness in a mathematical sense, here are some elements of Musk’s life and personality which have blown us away.

1) He’s really hands-on. Have a look at this video of Elon providing a free test-drive to Bloomberg Business. Pay attention to the low octave notes of Elon’s voice in the video. He makes the reporter and her camera-crew feel safe and comfortable with his calm demeanor. It’s cool that even though he could have told some other guy to do the test-drive, he chose to do it himself.

2) He’s obsessed with space travel and exploration. In the video below, you’ll hear Elon talking about his responsibilities as Chairman of SpaceX. “Our long-term goal,” says Musk, “is to develop the technology to transport millions of people to Mars, which will preserve the future of humanity, in the event of a calamity on Earth.” A little over the top, but okay…

3) He’s always re-inventing things. In the midst of his efforts to build a rocket to space, he and his team happened to develop a really cool motion-sensor method of designing the objects they need. Kudos points also goes for Elon’s willingness to provide this video for us.

4) He’s making huge advancements in Electric Vehicles and Solar Energy. “When you consider that the whole ecosystem is powered by the sun,” says Elon, “there’s just an itty bitty amount of energy that we need to do complicated human things. It’s a tiny bit of energy compared to what the sun puts on the earth every day.”

Summary

As mentioned above, Elon is involved in many noble efforts, especially those relating to space travel and sustainable energy. Despite being incredibly busy on the executive end, he is also one of his own best brand ambassadors.
