In celebration of World Health Day, we would like to pay tribute to our 3 favorite health start-ups. At Banc De Binary, we value innovative companies, especially those utilizing the power of modern technology to improve healthcare.
The advancements in technology have opened up new doors in providing health-related services. But those opportunities would be worthless without the entrepreneurs and employees that are turning vision into reality day in, day out.
Let’s begin.
1. iCouch.me
The iCouch network is made up of therapists and patients looking to connect. The service is innovative in that it allows users to find a therapist without committing to a long-term relationship, or even having to leave home. Patients are charged an average of $65 to $90 for 50 minutes of video chatting.
The network currently has over 5,000 paid users, and several hundred therapists. The company may grow rapidly soon, as it is in the process of forming partnerships with insurance companies, hospitals, and companies, looking to provide mental health services to employees, and customers.
2. MotherKnows
This company may seem incredibly simple, but nonetheless it can be incredibly useful. MotherKnows is geared towards parents who seek digitally-accessible health records of their children. By signing an electronic release, parents can access and forward anything from their children’s immunization records to their medical history.
The company has already raised $3.5 million from investors, and is growing like crazy (the number of people using the site is currently doubling every 6 weeks). MotherKnows charges parents $9.95 per month, or $98 per year. Parents also receive discounts if they sign up more than one child.
3. Doximity
Doximity is the Facebook (or LinkedIn) for medical professionals. Doctors can build their own profiles, and include their training, spoken languages, insurance they accept, clinical trials, and written articles, all in one place.
The company has wisely partnered with several notable market research firms, and doctors are encouraged (and paid) to provide feedback on the medical equipment they’re using. The network is gaining 1,000 doctors per week, and the increased collaboration is surely beneficial to the end-users, us patients.
Summary
The medical industry is undergoing rapid changes. Amongst the benefits is increased accessibility, increased collaboration, and cheaper services.
In the 21st Century, the medical consumer has become the center of his own universe. No matter what you’re looking for, chances are, the internet will help you find it.
