Google Opens First Google-Branded Store, in London

Shop

This week saw the launching of Google’s first-ever branded store. The store is located in London, the capital of England, and offers shoppers the chance to purchase Google Chromebooks, and Android phones. A number of different tech companies have been launching similar projects. Recently, Amazon opened its first brick-and-mortar store at Purdue University, located in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Google executives have stated that the aim of the stores is to enable Google to have a physical presence in front of the consumer. In terms of numbers, Google is by far the world’s most popular search engine. The Google site averages over 115 billion searches per month. In comparison, Baidu, China’s most popular search engine, averages around 15 billion searches per month.

In the Google store, a massive screen has been set up which allows visitors to explore Google Earth maps.

In 2015, Google stock price has already experienced a 5% increase. A share of Google was trading at $526 at the beginning of January, and is currently hovering around $555. Analysts have attributed the success of Google to the company’s ability to branch off steadily from its solely-search-engine origins.

The company now offers Google Mail (Gmail), and a wide variety of cloud-computing services, including Google Drive, Google Analytics, and Google Docs (which functions just like Microsoft word, but with a virtual and sharable twist, allowing for greater multi-computer collaboration).
