Making a positive contribution to the community is of the utmost importance for all of us at BDB. We do our best to integrate social, ethical and environmental values into our everyday work and business practices. Here are some of our proudest moments:
BDB proudly supports the Limassol-based FUNDRAISING Charity Association. We were delighted to take part in the organization’s “Santa’s Charity Workshop” event, set for the seventh year in a row. Founded 6 years ago, the association has made it its primary goal to help families in need. Over the years, the association has supported over 500 families. Assisting in families’ day-to-day needs, academic scholarships, and afternoon lessons to students are among the association’s various contributions. BDB honors FUNDRAISING’s contribution to society, and is proud to donate to its admirable activity.
BDB is delighted to support the Dancing Queen Foundation. We were happy to take part in the foundation’s annual Charity Walk, which took place on November 6th at the Limassol seafront. For eight consecutive years, Charity Walk has helped promote awareness to the dangers of driving under the influence, and has been led by the slogan “I’d rather walk than drink and drive.” The Dancing Queen Foundation was founded by friends and family of the late Dr. Yiota Demetriou, whose ambition to aid children with their psychological needs was cut short after she was hit by a drunk driver in 2008.
BDB extends its involvement in the community and its cultural growth as the company takes on another worthy cause. The Cyprus Paralympic Powerlifting Team was formed a year ago with high hopes and expectations, and has recently been picked up by BDB, which happily decided to sponsor it. It is an honor and a privilege to escort these promising young individuals on their journey to the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games.
As sponsors of the Cyprus Paralympic Powerlifting team, BDB continues to show its support and attends the Powerlifting Presentation of the Paralympic athletes at Green Dot - the Municipalities of Greater Limassol Festival for the Environment and Recycling. The event took place at Limassol Pier, on October 15th.
Budding Paralympic volunteers tested their strength and endurance at the live weightlifting demo tent. All in all, it was a memorable day for members of the Cyprus community, and for BDB employees.
On October 4th, 2013, BDB sponsored a fashion show at the Presidential Palace in Cyprus to raise money for the KYFA HIV and AIDS Support Center. The fabulous event, which included a fashion show featuring Rita Attala’s winter collection, signified such a worthy cause. We are proud to be able to take part in raising funds for the new hospice.
Sponsoring the Apollon FC youth teams was an easy decision since everyone at BDB is a football fan. On December 15th, 2014 we signed an agreement to become the official sponsors of the Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 teams for the 2015 season. We were very excited to support these promising youngsters and look forward to seeing their lion spirit and determination on the pitch.
BDB was thrilled to be the gold sponsor of Cyprus’ annual sporting highlight, the Limassol Marathon on March 29th, 2015. Over 40 of our employees and senior managers participated in the event, and ran together as a team in the 5K Corporate Race.
When the incredible and inspiring Aliki Chrysochou decided to run the London Marathon in April 2015 to raise funds for The Encephalitis Society, we were honored to become her official sponsors. Diagnosed with encephalitis, which causes a potentially fatal inflammation of the brain, Aliki was left unable to speak. Not only did she make a full recovery, but she also became a successful soprano. Supporting such a worthy cause was a true privilege. Watch her video story here
Culture is a vital element to every community, which is why BDB has taken upon itself to sponsor the Paphos Opera’s production of Cinderella, which debuted in September 2015. Other cultural events that we had the pleasure of supporting and sponsoring were the Limassol Ballet, and the Limassol Wine Festival, which has become a fixture in the city’s history.
As part of BDB’s commitment to the community within which it operates, at the end of 2015, and in true Christmas spirit, we placed a generous donation to the School for the Deaf in Nicosia, Cyprus. With the aid of this contribution, the nursery-preschool is now able to acquire the necessary equipment for the advancement of proper education in hearing-impaired children.
