You have probably been asked by your Starbucks barista if you would like a muffin with your coffee countless times. But a petition? Well, if you are in the U.S.A. this weekend, you’ll have the chance to answer this most unexpected question at your local Starbucks coffee shop. The CEO of the giant coffee-corporation, Howard Schlutz, announced on Thursday that he plans to disseminate ‘voluntary, non-partisan’ petitions to customers throughout the Unites States, asking law makers to reopen the Government, to pay the country’s debt on time, and to pass a bipartisan budget deal before the end of the year. Schlutz has been stirred to action, he said, by the realisation that ‘the American people have no platform with which to raise their frustration and outrage’.
